Innovation Café
USCMI Maritime Nuclear Innovation Café
The USCMI Maritime Nuclear Innovation Café serves as a free-to-participate forum that brings together leaders from across the maritime and nuclear sectors to advance discussion and collaboration on maritime applications of advanced nuclear technology for potential government applications. Participants will include researchers, startups, technology developers, shipowners and operators, shipyards, ports, investors, and public‑sector stakeholders.
Nuclear Propulsion

Floating Nuclear Power
applications
The Café will address both nuclear propulsion of vessels and floating nuclear power applications, with emphasis on identifying emerging technologies, exploring practical use cases, and examining the economic factors influencing the future deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs) and related technologies in U.S. maritime contexts.
About the USCMI Innovation Café Series
USCMI Innovation Cafés are designed as focused engagements, bringing together diverse maritime stakeholders around priority topics identified in the USCMI Initial Project Portfolio and Research Priorities. Each Café spotlights a high-impact theme, such as advanced nuclear technologies, artificial intelligence, autonomous and remotely operated systems, and next-generation shipboard energy solutions. Through collaborative discussions and targeted collaboration, the series aims to help promising technologies move from early innovation toward:
- Real-world deployment
- Regulatory consideration
- Demonstration and investment
