Closed Workshop Report · June 2026 Workshop: Regulatory Barriers to Small Modular Reactor Technologies for Maritime Applications A hybrid workshop was held on June 23, 2026 by the U.S. Center for Maritime Innovation (USCMI) in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), to generate insights on maritime nuclear regulatory development. This facilitated workshop gathered insights on a range of topics for floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs) and nuclear-powered vessels from nearly 200 participants. Recommendations were made on a range of topics, including design, vessel and port operations, with proposals specific to the USCG, others specific to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and others applicable to both. View report Closed Innovation Café · May 2026 Innovation Café: Small Modular Reactor Technologies for Maritime Applications The inaugural Innovation Café convened more than 100 stakeholders in Washington, DC to provide inputs on advancing maritime applications of small modular reactors (SMRs). Participants identified and evaluated potential barriers, developed recommendations for advancing SMR applications and provided inputs on upcoming USCMI projects. View report
